Red River Collegiate Championship Preview: TEXAS A&M

The D1A Red River Collegiate Rugby Conference is coming April 1st and should host some great college rugby match-ups.  The inaugural Canterbury North America Red River Collegiate Rugby Championships will be held at Huns Field in Austin, TX.  Gift-Time Rugby Network will be broadcasting the championship live.

Texas A&M will take on University of Oklahoma this Saturday, April 1st at 1 PM.  The full Red River Collegiate Schedule is on D1A College Rugby site under Red River Conference.

Texas A&M have guys that can score, that’s apparent, but will they be touching the try line come Saturday?  In their spring season the Aggies pounced the lower-ranked Red River South Division squads, scoring against Texas and TCU a collective 123 points.  It will take more than a quick offense to beat Oklahoma, who scored more than 30 points in nearly all of their league matches this year.

Texas A&M’s hard defensive play led to a fairly close loss to Baylor, who ended up winning 15-8.  That was Baylor’s lowest scoring match all season.  These A&M boys clearly don’t give up easily and need to commit to strong play on defense and at the breakdown to prepare for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Both Texas A&M and Oklahoma are sitting on 5-3 records, both are looking to prove who has the better team, and both will give us a great show of what Red River Rugby is all about.  Watch the action live Saturday April 1st at 1 PM on Gift-Time Rugby Network.
