Red River Collegiate Championship Preview: UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS

The D1A Red River Collegiate Rugby Conference is coming up on April 1st.  The inaugural Canterbury North America Red River Collegiate Rugby Championships will be held at the Huns Field in Austin, TX. Gift-Time Rugby Network will be broadcasting the championship live.

The University of Arkansas has one tough group of guys.  They will go head-to-head with the University of Texas in the 5th place match of the Red River Championships.  Flyhalf and February conference player of the month Jack Casey has been instrumental in the Razorbacks’ success this season.

Jack was studying abroad last fall and his return this spring is evident on the pitch.  Leading the backline, he sets the tone with his constant poaching and aggressive tackling.  Going on his 8th year playing rugby he spoke about the skills he ‘s been training recently.  “I’ve been focusing more on the details of the game such as ball presentation, where I’m placing my passes, and footwork in the contact area.  The constant focus on details while playing has helped me take my game to the next level.”

Jack said his team’s aggressiveness at the breakdown has been a driving factor in their success.  “When someone is tackled without support I know that someone from my side will be fighting for possession.  Without support, you can never win a rugby match.”

He also credited his coaching staff for driving them to be better players.

“Recently, we have been focusing a lot on our vision while playing.  We have been reviewing film and seeing missed opportunities in our previous games.  We will be looking to improve and capitalize on these opportunities in the future.”

In preparation for the face off with Texas Jack said, “I believe our coaches have prepared us very well.  Whenever we step on the field we are looking to win.  Our whole team is very competitive and I believe it shows on the pitch.  We want to send our seniors out on a win in their last college XV’s match.  The club has made huge progress through the past several years, and this class was a big part of it.”
