The Southeastern Rugby Conference (SCRC) has selected their 2016 All-Conference team.
This was a year where you saw major shifts in the power dynamics of the participating teams. Since the Southeastern Rugby Conference inception in 2011, the east division has been the preeminent powerhouse. 4 of the last 6 years came down, University of Tennessee or University of South Carolina as the champions, with the inaugural year being won by then, east division champs, University of Florida. In 2016, we found University of Alabama finally getting over the hump and taking the championship this year, with a win over Tennessee, 12-8. Additionally, this season we saw the rise of University of Kentucky with their first appearance in the SCRC playoffs and head coach, Gary Anderson receiving SCRC Coach of the Year honors. This only goes to bolster the talented SCRC east division.
The SCRC All Conference team featured a healthy mix of players from each team. Alabama and Tennessee led the way with 7 players each named as all-conference. Kentucky followed with 6 and South Carolina with 5. Florida and Georgia each placed 4 on the list. Mississippi State and Ole Miss had 3 each. Vanderbilt and Auburn added two each to bring the total of recognized players to 43.
