The University of Arizona looks to advance in the D1A playoffs this weekend by defeating the always competitive LSU Tigers. The team will look to captain, Cesar Davila to lead the team to the next rounds of playoffs.
Davila, a lock, got his start playing rugby from the suggestion of a friend as most do. He started while at UNLV and took his love for the game to UA. “I started playing rugby after being convinced by my best friend my freshman year while I was at UNLV,” explained the San Diego native.
The College Rugby Championships or CRC’s are one of the premier college tournaments to play in as they are aired live on NBC. For Davila, this was his favorite moment at UA. He continued, “To date, my favorite rugby moment has been being able to play in the CRC.”
UA rugby is somewhat different that traditional programs they thrive on being able to perform in a laid back atmosphere and not have as much pressure as other programs.
“Playing for u of a is, from what I’ve heard, a lot different than at other schools. We thrive on being loose and relaxed, and listen to reggae before games,” said the Animal Science major.
This weekend is going to prove as a test to the Wildcats. LSU has been a dominate force in southern rugby all season but Davila is confident in his squad. “My expectations for the LSU game, are to come out fast early and maintain a high tempo throughout the game,” stated Davila.
