There have been a lot of coach position changes this season. Earlier this week we saw the addition of Jules McCoy as the new USA Women’s 7s team head coach, today we go the opposite direction. Life University announced that Tui Osborne would be stepping down as the head coach for the Life University Rugby team.
Tui Osborne has been a participant of the Life University Rugby program for the last seven years as both a player, staffer, and a coach. He took over as head coach of the Life University team in 2014 after former coach, Dan Payne, was promoted to Life University Athletic Director. Last season, Osborne lead Life University to an undefeated season in D1A and second place finish in the National Championships.
In a press release, Payne talked about the impact that Osborne had on the team,
Tui has been a mainstay in our program and contributed greatly as a player and coach. He has been a great steward of the program during this past year while we experienced transition and growth. We recognize the importance of family and fully support his decision. We will certainly miss him as a coach and key figure, and I will miss him as a friend. We wish him well in this next chapter of his life.
Osborne will be relocating with his family to Buffalo, NY to be closer to family. He will officially leave at the end of October. Life University has started their search for a new head coach.
