Men’s Club Rugby Predictions – Week of March 28, 2015

Florida Rugby Union

Jacksonville Rugby Club (6-3) at Orlando Rugby Club (7-2)

Jacksonville will be traveling to take on Orlando this weekend. Jacksonville got their first win in 3 weeks in a close one against Miami Tridents at home. Jacksonville will be back on the road again, a position that they have been particularly weak on. Orlando is coming off a massive win over Miami Rugby. The confidence that they have gained over their three game win streak will help massively in this rematch. I expect Orlando to take this win.

Tampa Bay Krewe (2-7) at Miami Tridents (4-5)

Tampa Bay has found a way to get themselves out of the last place spot with a two game win streak. Miami Tridents have gone the opposite direction with two close losses against Tampa and Jacksonville. Though Tampa has been on the upset end the last two weeks, they have also had the benefit of having home-field advantage the last two weeks. Miami Tridents will be looking to close this season on a strong note, after a roller-coaster year. I expect home-field to be the difference in this game, and Miami Trident to take this win.

Miami Rugby Club (1-7) at Boca Raton Rugby Club (7-2)

Boca Raton pretty much lost first place losing to Ft. Lauderdale last week. Miami Rugby got blown out by Orlando last week. I wish there was probably more to explain, but Boca Raton is simply just a better team than Miami. At worst case this game has the elements of being a trap game for Boca Raton, but with this being a last game of the season for both teams, I expect Boca Raton to take this game solidly.

Naples Rugby Club (1-7) at Ft. Lauderdale Rugby Club (7-2)

Ft. Lauderdale will be hosting Naples. Ft. Lauderdale is top of the league and they have no plans on losing that. Ft. Lauderdale will take this win at home to end the season.

True South Rugby Union

Baton Rouge Rugby Club (4-0) at Battleship Rugby Club (1-3)

Baton Rouge will be traveling out to Mobile for the second match against Battleship. Baton Rouge has been on a roll this season, highlighted with a win over Birmingham on March 7th. They currently sit atop of the True South – South Division. Battleship has been back to keeping games close, but just not getting over the hump. They lost a close one to Montgomery last week 39-31. Last time Baton Rouge played Battleship, it was only a two point win. Look for Battleship to give Baton Rouge the tough match this week, as this stands to be a trap game for Baton Rouge, but I see Baton Rouge taking the win in this match up.

Knoxville Rugby Club (2-1) at Chattanooga Rugby Club (5-0)

Chattanooga will be hosting Knoxville this week. Knoxville is coming off a devastating 50-3 loss against Nashville this week. No matter how you put it Knoxville has yet to prove itself against tough teams. Chattanooga will not be the team that Knoxville will get to determine its test. Chattanooga is easily the best team in the True South -North division. Look for Chattanooga to take the win in this match.

Montgomery Rugby Club (2-3) at Birmingham Rugby Club (4-1)

Birmingham will be hosting Montgomery this week. Montgomery is coming off a win over Battleship last week. Birmingham took a 32-0 win over Jackson in muddy conditions. Montgomery has yet to prove them selves against a team with a winning record, and were utterly beat when they faced Birmingham on November 15, 34-18. Birmingham doesn’t look to be slowing down since their loss to Baton Rouge. Look for Birmingham to take the win in this match up.
