Rugby Recap: September 8th-10th

As the heat across the U.S. starts to drop, Rugby is on the rise. Here are the scores from across the nation and divisions for Men’s and Women’s Collegiate Rugby.

D1AA Men’s 

The Chesapeake Conference saw extensive action this past weekend, starting with Georgetown versus Virginia Tech. Virginia drew a healthy lead on Georgetown, ultimately winning the day 26-7. Mount St. Mary’s faced off against Salisbury taking the win 39-32, while Towson fell to Mary Washington 50-5. Lastly, James Madison defeated Virginia 22-13.

In the SCRC, Georgia beat Mississippi State 19-14. The University of Florida and Auburn match has been rescheduled in light of the hurricanes (Stay safe guys and gals!).

D1A Men’s 

In the Rugby East, Army ran it’s ground game versus Buffalo. Army came away with the blow-out win, 60-0.

In the Liberty Conference, Binghamton defeated Stony Brook 41-17.

D1 Non-Conference Play 

Preseason see’s a mix of matches from teams across conferences and divisions,and this weekend was no different. Under the Friday night lights Penn State’s developmental side smashed Harvard 113 – 0, while the A side beat Dartmouth 55-23. Indiana was successful against Lindenwood-Belleville with a score of 41-18, and Ohio State topped Oklahoma 46-10. Colgate saw a win versus Cornell 38-5 while Fairfield surpassed Yale 40-24. Both of Texas Tech University’s teams saw action this weekend, facing leaders in their respective fields in Air Force and Tarleton State. The Red Raiders were held scoreless against Tarleton 111-0, and the Falcon’s of Air Force struck hard in a resounding 94-0 victory. Albany beat Loyola 12-7, meanwhile West Chester barely squeezed out a win against Delaware 41-40. Tennessee edged South Carolina 32-22, and St. Bonaventure defeated NEC 32-7. Davenport crushed University of Michigan 95-7, while Kentucky beat Cincinnati 37-29. Fordham shut down Columbia 49-7, MTSU imposed their will on Vanderbilt, 85-5, and AIC wrecked UMass 97-0.

D2 Men’s  

In the WIIL group, Illinois State beat UIC 36-7. Marquette enjoyed a solid win over Loyola 32-17, while UW Stout found victory over UW Lacrosse 42-26.

In the Southern Conference, Furman defeated Elon 28-0, while Wake Forest beat UNC-G 50-0. Appalachian State won against WCU 57-7, but UNCP saw no such luck falling to UNC 28-0.

Over in the Cardinals Conference, the Virginia Military Institute defeated the Northern Virginia Griffins 66-0. Christendom College topped George Mason 35-0, meanwhile Virginia Commonwelath defeated Madison Developmental 32-27. William and Mary obliterated Lynchburg 114-0 while Radford brought the pain to Duke 31-19.

D1 Women’s 

The women of Quinnipiac saw their first victory of the season versus Army 42-22 at home. Notre Dame tied GVSU at home 24-24, while Queens University defeated Elon 94-0.
