Spring Hill College Sees Head Coach Change

Correction 9/1/2017: The original article stated that Austin Becker was the head coach for the Spring Hill College Men’s Rugby team. Becker is the head coach for both the men’s and women’s rugby team.

As we enter into a brand new college rugby season, new stories are always coming up. Spring Hill College Men’s Rugby Head Coach and Director of Rugby, Justin Goonan, has stepped down from his position of the last four years. Goonan, allegedly, has taken up a new position to work with new Dartmouth College Rugby head coach, James Willocks.

Goonan took over the rugby program in 2014, after former head coach, Mollie McCarthy, took a position at University of Colorado Women’s Rugby. Goonan helped guide the Spring Hill College Rugby program as they transitioned into a Varsity program.

The Spring Hill College Rugby Men’s Head Coach position didn’t stay open for long, as Austin Jésus Becker officially took over the job title. Becker had been working as an assistant coach for Spring Hill College for the last year.

Spring Hill College Men’s Rugby is a D1AA independent school, who plays in the Deep South Rugby Conference. They will be kicking off their season on September 2nd, against Arkansas State.
