The Memphis Rugby breaking barriers in Inner city

 

The youth rugby development in Memphis, TN has been growing rapidly. The improvements are becoming so significant, that it’s getting noticed outside the USA. The Telegraph, a United Kingdom based newspaper, has spotlighted some of the development that has occurred in Memphis.

The initial development of the Memphis Youth Rugby program was brought on by Shane Young and Devin O’brien

There are currently 100 players on their Memphis Inner City Rugby programme across four schools, PCA, Freedom Preparatory Academy, Soulsville Charter School and Central High School Girls. By the spring, they hope to expand that to seven teams. They may have ­already unearthed a future USA international in the No 8 Donovan Norphlet who was awarded a prestigious scholarship to Life University.
