USA vs. Canada: First half review

IMG_2347

At half-time, Canada takes the lead 13-0. Scoring off a quick kick from Phil Mack to himself for the score, Canada jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first 40 seconds of the game. The USA managed to slow down the Canadian on rush, but have yet to challenge Canada primarily in Canada’s side of the field. Canada has done an immaculate job in keeping this game on the USA side. One of the biggest issues that the USA team is having is their inability to take advantage of mistakes that Canada is making. The Eagles need to settle down and gather themselves, as they are allowing errant passes and poor decision making to take away their advantage.

USA needs Mike Petri and Chris Wyles to improve their decision making in passes. Wyles, Takudzwa Ngwenya and Blaine Scully need to make sure to back up to handle those accurate kicks by Canada. Canada’s Phil Mack is a ball of speed waiting to burst, and the USA needs to keep him covered. As he often drifts out to the wing to take the off loads.

Down 13-0 at half, hopefully in the second half of this game, the United States can take better advantage of the mistakes that Canada has made, and begin to improve on ball handling. Without these being fixed, they won’t be able to make it to Canada’s side of the field and force Canada to play with their back against the wall for once in this game.
