Last Saturday, the Texas A&M at Central Texas Rugby team held their inaugural match against Baylor University. Although this was the first match the Warriors have played together as a team, the young Warriors Rugby program displayed great promise for the near future.
The “Warriors Rugby” program is led by head coach, Dan Chase, who was a former coach of the Notre Dame College Falcons Rugby program. Chase, recently returned back to his home state of Texas with the vision of establishing something that would give the Central-Texas community a new game to cheer for. After gaining support from local coaches and colleagues, The “Warriors Rugby” program hit the ground running and are ready to take flight into this fall’s inaugural season. Coach Chase and his Warriors are ready to take on any challenge that may lie ahead them this season; “Even though it’s a club, other teams wont be ready for what will bring to the table in the future”, Chase said, as he continues to keep a high key motivated atmosphere among the community.
The Warriors season will resume on October 10th, as the women’s warrior rugby team host their first inaugural match against the Rice University Owls and then the men’s side will be taking on Le’Tourneau. Homecoming will be held on October 24th, as the women taking on Lamar and men battling Tarleton.
