Rugby Recap: March 17th-19th

As Spring Break comes to a close across the nation, so does another round of great rugby. In Men’s Senior Division, the Austin Huns took on the Dallas Harlequins in both D1 and D2 play. In D1, the Huns defeated the Harlequins 89-5. With D2 play, the Huns topped the Harlequins 103-0, while the D3 Austin Huns fell to Corpus Christi 33-21. Alliance held off Abilene 48-12 in the Key City, while Jacksonville defeated Miami 63-38. Elsewhere Boca Raton was successful in beating Ft. Lauderdale 54-17, and Tampa Bay came out on top over Naples 42-21. In a battle of Atlanta clubs, Old White faced off against the Renegades Saturday. After eighty minutes of classic rugby, Old White took the victory 20-12 over the Renegades. Olympic Club beat Santa Rosa 22-14, while Redwood defeated Marin 29-27. In Men’s Collegiate Division, Davenport lost to Arkansas  33-19 in regulation. Meanwhile, Life clenched a crucial Matrix match versus Clemson 81-12. Last but not least LSU-A defeated Eckerd College 34-16, becoming South Cup Champions.

In Women’s Collegiate Rugby, the SIRC Women’s Championship came down to a photo finish as Kennesaw State took on Tulane. After an even fight, a last minute score for Kennesaw blew the game wide open much to the dismay of Tulane. Final score 31-29 in favor of Kennesaw, crowning them SIRC Champions. In Women’s Senior Divisional play, the Atlanta Harlequins fell to Life University 44-5. Augusta defeated Eno River 56-5, meanwhile the Dallas Harlequins topped Lagniappe 35-5.  Life West beat Santa Rosa 45-0.

In High School Rugby, Ellsie Allen beat Napa 10-0, while Rosa Rugby defeated North Bay 29-10. Regis Jesuit beat Colorado Springs 17-14, and NOLA Barbarians defeated Christian Brothers 12-8 after eighty minutes in regulation in Memphis. Bayou Hurricanes defeated Brother Martin, 62-15.
