The Boston Rugby Football Club is announcing its new permanent home at Union Point Athletic Facilities in Weymouth, MA. Thanks to a major investment by Club Alumni, Jerry Shafir, Boston RFC will be training, playing home matches and hosting local, national and international tournaments at its new home for decades and generations to come.
Originally founded in 1960, the Boston Rugby Football Club honors a 57 year tradition of playing the highest quality rugby in New England and nationally. With over 30 New England Rugby Union Division 1 Championships in its storied history, it is New England’s most respected and time-honored Rugby Club.
As the long-term beneficiary of the investment in the Union Point project, BRFC will be the primary rugby tenant in what is currently the largest land development in the Northeast, planting roots on the 1,500 acre site of the former Southfield US Naval Air Base, just 15 miles south of Boston.
The new $25 Million, 25 acre sports facility will include:
~ Four fully lighted poly-turf playing fields
~ World Rugby Regulation 22 rugby pitch (one of only 6 in the U.S.)
~ New $2 Million gymnasium with locker rooms, showers, etc.
~ Brand new American Sports Bar on site, next to rugby pitch
~ Public transportation train stop on site, 25 minute ride to Boston
~ Three fields bubbled in for indoor use November-March
~ Grass berm seating and bleachers
~ Hundreds of adjacent public parking spots
~ Large children’s playground and dog park
~ Storage facilities and full service outdoor bathroom facilities
This facility will be located at Union Point, the Northeast’s largest and fastest growing real estate development, with new commercial space, hotels and entertainment under construction:
Boston RFC will begin to play home matches Spring 2018 and has plans to host Men’s, Women’s, International, Collegiate and High School tournaments, as well as rugby clinics, youth camps and a full Summer 7s program. The future is here!
