LSU MEN’S RUGBY HOSTS FIRST DIVISION 1 PLAYOFF GAME

On April 16, 2016, the #13 ranked LSU Men’s Rugby team will host their first D1A Collegiate Rugby Sweet 16 playoffs against #14 University of Arizona.

In LSU’s first year in the top level collegiate rugby division, D1A Rugby Red River Rugby Conference, they swept through their conference with a 6-0 record and 10-0 overall season record. LSU averaged

LSU’s opponents in the Red River Rugby Conference include, University of Texas, University of Oklahoma, Baylor University, Texas Christian University, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech. They had additional wins over non-conference opponents, University of Alabama, LSU-Alexandria and St. Louis University.

The University of Arizona enters into these playoffs with a 6-5 overall record and 4-5 divisional record. Arizona, has competed in one of the hardest schedules in the league. Starting the season early against #1 St. Mary’s University, #3 Lindenwood University and #5 University of Utah. They also competed against the 2015 Varsity Cup Collegiate Championship runner up University of Cal-Berkley, as well as Varsity Cup participants, UCLA, Arizona State.

The other hosts for the USA D1A Rugby Sweet 16 playoffs are San Diego State, who will take on Davenport; Air Force who will host Cal Poly; and Lindenwood, who will take on Wheeling Jesuit.

The LSU vs. Arizona match will be live broadcast on the digital network, Gift-Time Rugby Network (www.GiftTimeRugby.com). The playoff match will be held at the LSU Rec Fields on Gourrier Road and River Road, near the Alex Box Stadium.
