In the Deep South Rugby High School Conference, the Bayou Hurricanes continued their winning ways Saturday against division foe Niceville, FL 51-5.
The scoring started early and continued through the match with (5) different players finding the try zone (Demery Reener-4, Hunter Breit-2, Xavier Triplett-1, Reese Guidry-1 & James Williams-1) and Hunter Breit converting 3 of 9 tries in a stiff wind. The visitors, which did not travel as strong as they would have liked, never gave up and finally found the try zone near the end of the second half. The Hurricanes were not quite sure what to expect from the visitors who, the week before, lost to reigning state champions St Paul’s by only (2) tries. The Hurricanes played a friendly the following day (Sunday 14th) against Christian Brothers HS from Memphis TN who were in town for several days of rugby. The first half saw a “B” side fielded by Christian Brothers vs the Hurricanes youngest/newest players out of the (22) man squad with a 69-0 result at the half. The second half saw both sides near full strength with a second half result of 41-7.
The Bayou Hurricanes will face off against reigning state champs St Paul’s next weekend at home in Raceland, La at Raceland Recreation Center at 2:00 pm CST in what promises to be an epic match up of the top two teams in the Deep South High School Rugby Conference
