Rugby Recap: November 17th-19th

With qualifiers, semi finals, and cup matches underway, rugby in the United States is busy to say the least. Between finals in Texas, qualifiers to the North, and regular pool play all around, there have been great battles and blowouts across the board. Here are your scores from across the nation pertaining to Men’s and Women’s Collegiate rugby.

Men’s D1A Collegiate

In the Liberty Challenge, Fordham defeated AIC 13-10. Northeastern took a win over SUNY Cortland 42-10, meanwhile Syracuse fell to URI 17-12. Binghamton took a tight victory over UConn 32-29, and Tufts silenced Delaware 27-17. Fairfield defeated Albany 61-7 and UMass beat Stony Brook 26-19.

In Red River Conference play, Texas fell to a stout Arkansas State side 65-0. LSU took a win over Arkansas 51-15, while A&M beat down Oklahoma 64-15. Baylor handled TCU 50-8 in Fort Worth. In remembrance of their fallen teammate, Texas Tech took on Woodlands RFC in the first annual Quinn Noel Memorial Rugby Match. After eighty minutes of hard hits, Woodlands came out victorious 34-31.

In a series of non-conference fixtures, Navy sank Notre Dame 80-5. Elsewhere, Saint Mary’s annihilated Iona 74-0.

Women’s D1 Elite Collegiate

In a weekend of exciting match ups, Life University Varsity saw a win against Stars RFC 40-19. In the JV match, Life took another victory over SIRC 55-10.

Men’s D1AA Collegiate

In the D1AA qualifiers, UMW neutralized Rowan 43-12. Kentucky made short work of WMU, winning their fixture 59-25. Saint Joseph took a tight victory over Tennessee 13-10, and Bowling Green bumped off JMU 10-7. In the subsequent semi finals, UMW defeated Kentucky 38-7 and Saint Joseph took down 29-10.

Women’s D1 Collegiate 

In the NIRA, it was championship weekend. Sunday saw Quinnipiac matched up against Dartmouth in a final guaranteed to drop jaws. Although Darthmouth drew first blood, Quinnipiac won the day 29-20 for a three-peat National Championship.

Women’s D2 Collegiate

In the Lone Star Conference, powerhouses OU and UNT geared up for a final of their own. Playing in the 12’s league, both teams fought a hard season facing opponents such as Angelo State, Abilene Christian, and more. As the dust settled the UNT Lady Eagles stood victorious over OU, the final score reading 41-31.
