Rugby Recap: November 3rd-5th

As some seasons come to a close this November, others are just getting started across the country. Whether it be in the Southwest Heart of Texas, or the fringes of the Rocky Mountains, rugby is rolling on with a fervor unlike any other. Here is the score report for collegiate rugby from this past weekend.

Men’s D1A

In a finale renowned for it’s physicality and character, Army faced off against Air Force in Colorado Springs. A notable moment came during the sixty fourth minute of play as reveille sounded, and both teams stopped play to salute.

After the hands were down however, it became apparent Army had exerted their dominance on the Zoomies of Air Force. Final score read 66-7, in favor of Army.

In Liberty Conference play, Fordham handled Colgate 57-7. Northeastern pulled a solid victory against UConn 53-3, while Rhode Island beat Stony Brook 51-12. Iona took a win over opponent Iona, 57-18.

In the Red River Conference, Texas defeated TCU 67-11. LSU ran a successful campaign against UH winning 76-12, but Arkansas fell in the face of Arkansas State 31-19.

In the Big 10 Conference, Indiana blew out Michigan 40-0 and Ohio State defeated Wisconsin 43-19.

In assorted Non-Conference fixtures, Notre Dame handled Wheeling Jesuit 41-31. Navy sank Penn State 38-29, while Binghamton fell to Buffalo 36-20. St. Bonaventure took a very tight win against Davenport 33-32, and Utah decimated Wyoming 79-10. Delaware defeated Wilmington rugby 52-36 in a neighborly fixture.

Women’s D1 Elite

In an exhibition match, CWU defeated the Seattle Saracens 43-0. Stanford saw a victory against Cal Poly 25-7, while Lindenwood annihilated Notre Dame College 97-0. BYU defeated UVU 37-12.

Men’s D1AA

In the MAC semi-finals, Bowling Green struck Cincinnati 32-17. Western Michigan won their fixture versus Louisville 31-22.

In Chesapeake play, James Madison took down Georgetown 34-7. Mary Washington had a solid victory over Mount St. Mary’s 43-10, and Maryland stomped Virginia 73-19. Virginia Tech had a blowout versus Towson, ultimately winning the match 62-0.

Over in the Ivy League, Dartmouth took a forfeit win over Columbia. Elsewhere, Penn managed to shut out Cornell 75-0 but Harvard took a loss against Yale 28-19.

In the Mid-Atlantic semifinals, St. Joe’s beat West Chester 24-7. Rowan ran a successful campaign against Temple, with the final score reading 27-15. Rowan was defeated immediately thereafter in the final by St. Joseph’s, the score reading 27-11.

In the SCRC semifinals, Tennessee beat South Carolina 27-17 while Kentucky beat Alabama 40-22. In the final match, Kentucky took a close win over Tennessee 26-22.
