TCU and Arizona agree to match series

Texas Christian University announced yesterday that they have signed a two match series against top ranked University of Arizona for the 2016/2017 season, and then again for the 2017/2018 season.

Excited to announce that the Texas Christian University (TCU) Rugby Team has agreed on a two-year series with the University of Arizona Rugby team starting in 2016 when the Horned Frogs will be heading to Tucson!

The Wildcats will return the favor in 2017 when they visit Hell’s Half Acre!

U of A is one of the premier programs in the nation and we look forward to the challenge of measuring ourselves against the best!

Both these teams are participants of the USA Rugby D1A division. Texas Christian University just finished their first season in D1A, competing in the Red River Conference and finishing 0-5. University of Arizona is considered to be an independent school and has no conference affiliation, giving them a little more flexibility to schedule matches. Arizona finished 17th in the Canterbury D1A Rankings last year, but did not qualify for the playoffs.

Scheduling like this looks to create stronger competition for these teams, and build better experience. Both these teams have been established for 20+ years and have built a reputation in their region for quality rugby play. We hope to see more competitive scheduling like this for more teams.

Update (8/8/2015): University of Arizona is part of the Pac 12 Rugby conference. We incorrectly designated their conference as Independent.
