(SOURCE) The USA Men’s Eagles Sevens have been trying to prepare for the Gold Coast 7’s tournament. They decided to try and get some friendlies under their belt, before they travel to Australia for October 11th. The Matt Hawkins coached team signed up for the Fiji Water Centennial International Sevens to test the players a little bit so they don’t go into the HSBC World Cup Series with only practice experience.
They were at the Fiji Water Centennial International Sevens is a 16-team tournament, run by the Fijian Rugby Union, that features teams from, Argentina, Australia, USA, Fiji, France, America Samoa, Kenya, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tahiti, Tonga, Tuvalu, and United Arab Emirates.
The USA manged to only come out of pool play with a 1-3 record. The USA’s pool included, France, Argentina, Fiji Barbarians, and Fiji Warriors. The Eagles were outscored in this tournament 101 – 65, with their only win coming in a 24-19 win over the Fiji Barbarians. The key players for the USA were Brett Thompson and Folau Niua.
