USA Rugby has created a partnership with Taranaki Rugby, a provincial rugby union located in New Zealand. In a press release by Taranaki Rugby CEO, Michael Collins, he says,
“It is exciting to form this relationship with USA Rugby. Recent results suggest that USA Rugby is a growing force in sevens and fifteens and it is great that Taranaki Rugby can assist in their development.”
The partnership will open up a new pathway for players and coaches from the USA to travel to Taranaki to immerse themselves in New Zealand culture.
It looks like USA Rugby is trying to open up official pathways for players to gain more experience. You have to commend the organizations efforts to offer more opportunity for athletes to gain more experience in Rugby. One does have to mention that Taranaki isn’t the only New Zealand region that has been accepting USA athletes to play and learn (Wellington); nor is it the only country interested (South Africa, England). Needless to say, it’s impressive for USA Rugby to help provide a pathway. Hopefully places like Taranaki, will help give mass experience to these up and coming players, allowing them to bring a new level of play to the USA.
